Biophilic Connection Score
The Biophilic Connection Score is the second pillar of Longevity by Design. It requires a minimum of three distinct biophilic elements in every occupied space — natural stone, untreated wood, living plants, a water feature, or natural fibre — turning the idea of bringing nature indoors into a countable specification that can be verified after handover.
Stanford University research (2022) found that even brief exposure to natural materials and views lowers cortisol, the primary stress hormone, by around 15% within eight minutes. Because chronically elevated cortisol drives the inflammation that accelerates biological aging, biophilic contact is one of the most efficient environmental levers available to an interior architect.
Frequently asked
What is the Biophilic Connection Score?
It is the biophilia pillar of the Longevity by Design methodology — a requirement of at least three natural elements (stone, wood, plants, water, natural fibre) in every occupied space.
How does biophilic design affect health?
Brief contact with natural materials and views lowers cortisol by about 15% within eight minutes (Stanford, 2022), reducing the stress-driven inflammation associated with accelerated aging.
